Sleep Trick: Morning Workouts

There’s no doubt about it; getting to sleep at night can be a challenge. There’s nothing worse than hopping into bed only to find out you have all sorts of excess energy from sitting in front of the computer all day. You’re under the covers and all you want to do is thrash around; I believe Seinfeld said it best with “jimmy-legs.” Perhaps you’ve been doing your daily exercise after you get home from work to burn off some extra energy, but this could actually be contributing to the problem. Your body requires a minimum of 4 to 5 hours to cool back down after rigorous exercise, so those after-work sessions at the gym are really staying with you until 11 or 12 o’clock. A great way to avoid this common problem is to start doing morning workouts. Along with making it easier to fall asleep at night, exercise in the morning has been proven to boost your energy level and productivity during the day. For those of us who don’t exactly identify as “morning people,” this may be difficult at first, but the added spark during the day along with healthier sleep at night just might be enough to keep your fingers off the “snooze.”
